I was using make.com to generate and automate some of our social media posts, specifically Facebook and X (formerly the artist known as Twitter).
Everything I’ve learned so far about AI automation I’ve gotten from the phenomenal @HELENA-LIU. Helena has explained to me the process of getting a LLM (Large Language model) such as Perplexity, to access a Google spread sheet I created with a list of our blog article links.
Once Perplexity understood what to access I told it: “Once a day summarize the content of the next news link on my google doc list”.
The next process in this scenario was to add Open AI (ChatGPT), and instruct it to get that daily news summary from Perplexity, then to rewrite it.
I’ve told ChatGPT to “act as a social media manager” and behave in a certain tone, creating a certain outcome by the way it morphs the summary. This is what Helena said to do and it worked a treat! Now I have AI creating a post for me and posting it to Facebook each day. Excellent! See Helenas tutorial here.
Next I wanted to automate our X posts in the same way.
I think it’s important to note here that Big Orange Planet does not rely on a robot to do all its social media. Linkedin is a forum for professionals, real people interacting and showing their expertise. AI generated content is not sophisticated enough to fly undetected repeatedly in this realm just yet, in our opinion. Ally Lennon, our SEO expert, enjoys representing Big Orange Planet on Linked in.
Likewise our Instagram and Youtube channel are created 100% authentically by me, Big Oranges Planet’s Creative director.
Morally the uncertainty around AI generated art is interesting. I feel it’s also currently academic. Right now AI generated art is not consistent enough or good enough to replace real human talent unnoticed. Therefore it’s not yet the morality of using AI generated art but more the integrity I owe our brand that keeps me from getting AI assistance on our Instagram and youtube.
However Facebook and X are platforms that we feel we should have representation on, but quite frankly hate to use! However LLMs like ChatGPT and Anthropic Claude have been very clear that if you want your brand in AI answers you should be employing Mention strategies. Explaining why brand mentions may beat backlinks in LLM (large language model) visibility: See this brilliant article by by Inessa Bokhan on April 22, 2025
“Backlinks have long been a core part of SEO. But when it comes to AI-generated answers, links don’t carry the same weight. LLMs (Large Language Models) like ChatGPT and Perplexity don’t crawl the web like Google. They learn from raw text, not from who’s linking to who. That means your brand can still make it into AI answers—even if it’s never been linked—as long as it’s being mentioned in context.”
Therefore for us being active on FB and X makes sense as part of our AI SEO approach.
So (and this is the sci-fi bit I really like): The articles Perplexity is summarizing are Big Orange blog posts that real humans have written. We feed them into Perplexity to summarize, which feeds them into ChatGPT, which adds a personality and agenda to that summary before it’s posted on FaceBook.
Out in the wilds of the web, AI SEO then consumes that content, and feeds it back to itself to establish your sites relevancy. So yes AI is feeding itself AI content, but the starting point was from a human written article full of human thoughts. A satisfying dance with robots!
Ok, back to getting make.com to automate Twitter.
I followed the brilliant Helena’s instructions to the letter but it wouldn’t work, I could not connect to our Twitter page. Very weird and frustrating. I googled why? Google replied:
“Reason for Discontinuation: The primary reason for this removal is X’s API policy requirements and pricing, which make it difficult and costly for Make to provide a reasonable integration for its users.”
Fair enough. Interesting that this happens on April 3rd 2025, (and existing Make scenarios using X will stop working on May 30, 2025 ), at a time when the owner of X, Elon Musk popularity has gone from being “Rocket man to freefall”.
In a way i was pleased, as I said we never enjoyed Twitter and so I appreciate make.com making (ha!) the decision for me that X is all too much bother and nonsense.
So for now only FB posts are running as AI automated here at BOP. Please take a look and see what you think of those posts, any feedback greatly appreciated as we continue evolving experiments with AI SEO here at Big Orange Planet.
The real live human Ally Lennon over at linked in would love to know!
