How to Get Your Company Mentioned in AI Search Results – (Without upsetting the robot)
Search is morphing. It used to be you fought for “#1 on Google.” Now, AI systems like Google’s Overviews, Copilot, ChatGPT, or Perplexity are bypassing traditional search results and summarizing answers themselves. If you’re not part of those summaries, you might as well be invisible.
Entities Are the New Keywords AI systems don’t operate purely on phrases anymore. Instead, they’re building knowledge graphs—webs of “things” (entities) like your company, your product, your services. These graphs connect your brand to topics and questions. If your business isn’t recognized as an entity, it’s easy for AI to sideline you in favor of someone else whose web presence is more defined and consistent.
Get Your Business Profile Straight
Start with your Google Business Profile. Make sure every field is accurate: name, address, phone, categories, descriptions, services. If your business is a web design studio in Denver, say so explicitly. Don’t leave anything vague. Then mirror that in Bing Places, Apple Business Connect, and the major directories. AI’s cross‐reference logic looks at multiple sources. If something doesn’t match, your brand becomes suspicious.
Talk to the Robots (Nicely) with Structured Data
Humans read your site; machines parse your site. You need both. That’s where structured data (schema) comes in. Embedding schema like Organization, LocalBusiness, Service, or Review tags tells AI exactly who you are, what you do, and how people rate you. It’s like giving the machines your emergency cheat sheet—“Yes, this is a web design business, yes we have reviews.” Don’t give AI puzzles to solve. Tell it directly.
Answer Questions, Don’t Hide Them
AI loves content that feels like an answer. Don’t bury the question in a wall of marketing fluff. Publish blog posts, FAQs, guides in natural language. If someone might ask, “Which Denver web shop does custom WordPress work?”, your content should say, plainly, “We build custom WordPress sites in Denver,” early and clearly. Use clean headings, short paragraphs, and structured format so AI can pull your lines cleanly into its responses.
Be Everywhere That Matters
You can’t just optimize your own website and expect AI to find you. AI systems look at the whole web. Get your brand in trusted publications, directories, and review sites. Earn backlinks from industry blogs. The more consistent mentions and citations you accrue, the stronger your entity becomes. Also, focus on the reviews. When clients say, “They built our custom Shopify solution” or “Amazing SEO work,” those phrases help associate those keywords with your brand. Encourage specificity (without scripting), and reply to reviews with relevant terminology.
Show You Know Your Stuff (E-E-A-T, But Real)
Google and AI systems like to see Experience, Expertise, Authority, and Trust. So make sure your authors have credible bios. Publish case studies with real metrics. Link to trusted sources. Show that you aren’t some fly-by-night. Technically, too: your site should be secure (HTTPS), have a clear privacy policy, and contact info that doesn’t feel like a ghost. If AI sees you’re sloppy here, it’s going to penalize your credibility.
Write Like It’s a Conversation
The queries people make in AI tools aren’t keyword strings—they’re questions: “Who makes custom e‐commerce sites near me?” “Best SEO consultant in Denver.” So adjust your content to use that tone. Sprinkle these conversational queries into your headings and paragraphs. Make your site searchable like how people speak.
Watch What the Robots Do (Not Just Google)
You need to test your AI visibility. Run queries in Google’s AI Overviews, in Bing Copilot, in ChatGPT (with browsing on), even in Perplexity. See if your brand shows up in AI responses. If competitors keep appearing and you’re absent, you have clues about what content or structure you’re missing.
Don’t Forget Images & Video
AI’s not just reading text now. That means alt text, video transcripts, and clear image metadata become part of your strategy. Publish short videos that explain what you do. Use diagrams. Give the AI something else to pick from beyond plain text.
Keep Improving — AI Moves Fast
The strategy that works today won’t always be enough tomorrow. Voice, real-time data, API-driven brand feeds—these will become standard. The brands that win this space are the ones who treat AI optimization like ongoing maintenance, not a one-time push.
In Closing
If you want AI to mention you, you have to be clear, consistent, and authoritative. Define your brand everywhere. Structure your site so machines parse you easily. Answer questions directly. Be present across trusted sources. Show you’re real. And always test whether AI actually sees you. If you do this, one day you’ll ask ChatGPT “Who’s the best web studio in Denver?” and it might just say your name— without needing you to beg.
